Transferring what we're learning to the classroom will be facilitated by a Lesson Study project, modeled after the practice developed in Japan. Participating teachers will work in groups (some cross grade-level, some cross-school system) to develop a Climate system-based lesson plan focusing on a specific learning goal. Groups will develop the lesson collaboratively over the next few workshops, then, in April, one group member will teach the lesson to a classroom of students while the others observe. The group will then evaluate the effectiveness of the lesson and make suggestions for how it might be modified.
For a description of the assignment, timeline, and protocol, read the document below.

Example Descriptions for Lesson Study Planning-- more in depth that you will need to do, but good examples of the thinking process.

Lesson Study- Year 2

The main objective of the second year of the Lesson Study project is to take what you learned teaching and observing the lesson/activity the first time, make modifications to it as you see fit, then reteach, observe, and reevaluate. During your work time, you should be:
  • reviewing the student learning observed during Year 1 teaching of the lesson.
  • collaborating to modify the original lesson in ways that will improve student learning, clarity, effective use of time, assessment, etc. as you see fit.
  • determining who will teach the lesson this year and when
  • summarizing each of the above to share with the C2C group in Feb (Note: If you will be teaching the lesson before then, please let Annette know as soon as possible!)
